Where to Eat
Edinburgh has no shortage of great places to eat. Read below for some options.
Closest to the venue
Pleasance Café/Bar – on site. Light snacks, drinks, coffees.
Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch – Paninis, sandwiches, burgers and drinks. Across the road from the venue.
The Richmond Café – a block further up. General café with a Mediterranean twist.
Soul Vegan – beside Richmond café - Vegan restaurant – a small venue with limited opening hours. May require bookings for meal.
Morrati – Pizza takeaway at the bottom of the Pleasance.
David Bann – bottom of the Pleasance, just onto St. Mary’s street - excellent high-end vegetarian restaurant with plenty of options. About average prices for the Old Town.
On Nicholson Street (about 5 minutes walk away)
My recommendation would be to head to Nicolson Street, a couple of blocks over. It’s student central so a lot of the food is very reasonable. This is a list of a selection of the restaurants you can find there about 5 minutes away from the venue:
City Restaurant – Fish and Chip shop that does a good selection of fish and chips but also pastas and hearty, filling food. Very good prices and huge portion sizes. (Sit in or take away)
El Jefe’s - Mexican, I think. Haven’t been in since it took over the site. (Sit in)
Pizza Posto – very good Italian restaurant with reasonable prices and good portions. A good place for larger groups, if you book in advance. (Sit in)
Mosque Kitchen – A fantastic South Asian restaurant with loads of delicious options and good prices. (Sit in)
Palmyra Pizza – a cheap-and-cheerful Kebab/Pizza/Falafel shop that does big wraps for low prices. (Takeaway with a handful of seats)
Beirut – An excellent Lebanese restaurant, though a little higher on the price scale. Everything they have there is absolutely delicious and their portions are very big. (Sit in, though I think they still have a little take away window next door)
10 to 10 in Delhi – Indian café with curry options. Always always makes me hungry after I walk by it. (Sit in)
Maki & Ramen – Japanese fastfood noodle bar. Big portion sizes for the most part. (Sit in)
BBurger – A burger chain that is halal certified. Their burgers are pretty good and the prices are okay. (Sit in and takeaway)
Black Medicine - Independent café with lots of variety of tea, coffee and other drink options, pastries, cakes and sandwiches. (Sit in and takeaway)
Café 1505 - Next door to Surgeon’s Hall. Excellent variety of sandwiches, cakes, pastries and nibbles. (Sit in or takeaway)
Soul Sushi - a little bit further down Nicolson street. So-so pricing, but food is usually pretty good. (Takeaway)
Sweety House - beside St. Patrick’s Square - some of the best baklava in the city. Also does savoury bites like falafel, hummus, wraps etc. Also the owner is the biggest ball of sunshine and I will recommend him and his place to everyone I meet.
